Why Mercedes batteries fail faster in Dubai
Two things work against a Mercedes battery here. The first is heat: above roughly 35°C the electrolyte inside evaporates and the internal plates corrode faster, which is why a battery that lasts four or five years in Europe often lasts 18 months to 2.5 years in Dubai.
The second is electrical load. A modern Mercedes runs a long list of systems even after you lock it: alarm, keyless entry, telematics, seat and mirror memory, and on many models a 360-degree camera system. Park it for two or three weeks at the airport in summer and a battery that was already halfway through its life will be flat when you come back.
Most Mercedes models need an AGM battery
If your Mercedes has ECO start-stop, which is standard on almost everything sold here since around 2012, it needs an AGM battery, not a conventional flooded one. AGM batteries are built to handle being cycled repeatedly, which is exactly what start-stop does every time you pull up at a light on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Fitting a cheaper flooded battery in a car designed for AGM is a false economy. The charging system pushes a charge profile the battery is not built for, so it typically fails within a year, and start-stop often stops working long before that.

The auxiliary battery most owners don’t know about
Many Mercedes models, including a lot of C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC and GLE cars, carry a small second battery in addition to the main one. It supports the electronics during start-stop events and keeps systems alive while the engine restarts.
When the auxiliary battery fails, the symptoms confuse people: warning messages appear for systems that have nothing to do with the battery, start-stop stops working, or the car behaves strangely while starting normally. Battery registration: why it matters on a Mercedes
Newer Mercedes models track the condition of the fitted battery and adjust charging to suit it. When a new battery goes in without being registered, the car keeps charging as though the old, worn battery is still there. That usually means undercharging, and a new battery that fails far sooner than it should.

- Slow cranking, particularly on the first start of the day.
